The island of Réunion is therefore the paradise of outdoor activities but not only! It is in fact the seat of one of the biggest music festivals: the Sakifo Musik Festival. Sakifo is a music festival conceived in 2004 by Jerome Galabert, the first four editions took place in the city of Saint Leu; since 2008 the festival has moved to Saint Pierre, a city in the south of the island and takes place every year between May and June, the 2019 edition will take place this weekend. The Sakifo is now considered one of the most important Indian Ocean music festivals that has given La Réunion island a great reputation thanks to the quality and variety of the artists who perform at each edition; alongside international artists there are also local ones, giving back to the festival the characteristic of being an event in which different genres alternate (pop, rock, electro, chanson française, blues, funk and music from Africa and India Ocean) to guarantee a show in which multiculturalism becomes the protagonist. Since 2007, the Alain Peters Award has also been established, dedicated to an enigmatic artist of the island who died in 1995; every year this award is given to an exceptional emerging talent.
