Today, fortunately, the Christmas Angel is no longer connected to a political meaning but has regained the genuine image of a Christmas figure with blond curls and has become a true symbol of rebirth. Let’s leave Nuremberg now and head to another city in Europe. It is the turn of Vienna, the old Austro-Hungarian capital where romanticism, tradition and craftsmanship merge creating a perfect balance. Walking through the streets of the historic center you will be overwhelmed by the scent of Christmas cookies, hot punch, toasted almonds and Christmas lights that give life to a fantastic festive air. We continue the climb along this second part of the Top 10 with another Austrian city: Salzburg. Although Austria is not the home of Christmas markets, it still boasts some of the most beautiful markets in Europe. The Austrian cities are characterized by a warm and welcoming atmosphere also thanks to the numerous musical events taking place in this period, by no coincidence Austria is home to the Stille Nacht which was performed for the first time in the church of San Nicholas Oberndorf near Salzburg. The melodies, the scent of the typical sweets and the numerous stalls with local products will keep you company in the visit of this welcoming city.
We leave Austria and head to Germany and in particular to the beautiful Munich, a city that turns into a true kaleidoscope of lights, sounds and colors for Christmas, giving a unique and suggestive atmosphere. The most famous market in this city is the one held in Marienplatz called Christkindlmarkt, made particularly suggestive by the scenery in which it is immersed: the New Town Hall with its Glockenspiel tower dominates the north side of the Square and the silhouette of the bell tower of the Sankt Peter Kirche in the south. The setting of the markets is made even more magical by the live performances of a band which, at 5.30pm, from the balcony of the Town Hall performs the sweet Christmas melodies of the Alps.
We end today’s appointment by flying to Prague, one of the most popular destinations in Eastern Europe at any time of the year and in particular during this one. The atmosphere in Prague is one of the most magical. Among the main streets of the city, from Wenceslas to the old square, there is an air of celebration. It all culminates in the old square with a beautiful Christmas tree coming directly from the Krkonoše mountains. On the occasion of Christmas, the square where the Church of Saint Nicholas and the Town Hall with the tower of the Prague Astronomical Clock are located, become the protagonists of a scenography capable of giving a unique atmosphere to the entire square.
